Home Visits & Telehealth

When to arrange a home visit or telehealth consultation:

  • You have difficulties getting about

  • Are unable to drive

  • Need to isolate from other people for health reasons

  • Simply feel more comfortable in your own home.

Phytness Health Care is dedicated to providing a range of convenient service options. Many health problems can be managed more effectively when treated in the comfort of your own home setting where practical problems can be tackled specific to your home environment. Physiotherapy at home also enables other members of the family to be involved and to gain a better understanding of your condition and how to help.

What to expect from a home visit

  1. When you arrange a home visit it is important to set aside enough time, free from interruptions and telephone calls. Your spouse or a friend is welcome to be present if you prefer not to be alone.

  2. Before your first visit it is helpful to gather together any recent medical records, X-rays and MRIs that you have, to show to the Physiotherapist when they arrive. Think through what your main problems are and what you would most like to achieve from treatment. Write down a list of questions if you feel you may forget, but don’t worry about it if you do as the Physiotherapist will probably expect to see you for a few sessions if not on a regular basis, during which time you can talk about any other issues.

  3. The first visit may take as long as 40minutes to an hour, during which time the Physiotherapist will make an assessment of your physical condition and if relevant your living area too. Your Physiotherapist will discuss and provide with you the most appropriate treatment method. Your Physiotherapist will arrive as promptly as possible but may be a little delayed if traffic is heavy. If there is going to be a longer delay they will ring you to let you know.

  4. If you require a receipt of payment let your Therapist know. If you have Private Health Insurance, check with them in advance that you will be able to claim for the Physiotherapy Treatment.

What to expect from a Telehealth consultation:

  1. A telehealth consultation takes place via a secure, encrypted video call with your therapist.

  2. Your therapist will discuss the history of the problem and any other medical conditions, past injuries etc, and your goals with you. They may then guide you through a range of assessments while they observe via the video link. Your therapist can then discuss your treatment options, the nature of your condition and what to expect in terms of recovery, provide you with instructions on techniques to reduce symptoms and progress your recovery. They can setup an exercise program and education resources which you will be able to view during and after the consult via PhysiApp and direct you to other appropriate resources.

  3. When you arrange a telehealth consultation, it is important to set aside enough time, free from interruptions and other telephone calls. Your spouse or a friend is welcome to be present if you prefer not to be alone or would like them to help you with your home based treatment.

  4. Before your first visit it is helpful to gather together any recent medical records, X-rays and MRIs that you have, to share with the Physiotherapist (if you have scans of the reports, these may be useful to the therapist and can be emailed to your therapist during the consultation).

  5. Think through what your main problems are and what you would most like to achieve from treatment. Write down a list of questions if you feel you may forget, but don’t worry about it if you do as the Physiotherapist will probably expect to see you for a few sessions if not on a regular basis, during which time you can talk about any other issues.

  6. Setup either your phone or computer for the call in advance so that you are ready to answer when the therapist calls you. Instructions can be found here, but please call us if you have any queries.

  7. To make a booking, please contact one of the clinics or use our online booking service. For online bookings, sessions are offered via all of our locations (Fairy meadow, Campus and Phytness Telehealth) at different times. If you don't see a time to suit, please call us as we may be able to accommodate an alternate time to suit you.
